Sony to focus more on mobile gaming

Written by Ben Blaschke

Sony is likely to push further into the world of mobile gaming in the future following the stunning success of its 2015 release Fate/Grand Order in Japan, the company has revealed.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Fate/Grand Order was responsible for a 23 percent rise in operating profit for the company’s Sony Music division last financial year, up to 16.5 billion yen, with the game comfortably out-performing rival Nintendo’s Pokemon Go. Among Android users, it made more money than Pokemon Go 104 out of 133 days in 2016.

Sony is now looking at releasing more games into more markets in the coming months.

“Whether you look at the number of downloads or users or revenue, it has exceeded our expectations,” said Atsuhiro Iwakami, President of Sony’s Aniplex Studio.
