Major poker tournaments (especially large main events) can be very expensive to enter – most are around the US$10,000 mark. This is a hefty sum to the average card player. This problem gave rise to the idea of the “satellite” tournaments, which make up a large part of the worldwide poker tournament schedule. A satellite tournament allows players a chance get into a very expensive tournament for a much smaller cost.
