Underrated

Written by James Potter

There are so many sports I consider to be overrated. I am not going to bore you with listing them out, but from where I sit many Olympic and non-Olympic sports are just a pure waste of time.

For the most part, if you have great athletes competing in a sport which is good to watch and internationally revered, then success will follow. There is one great example of this – volleyball.

Volleyball is a cracking game and I hope for it to receive the prominence it deserves one day. I hate people who make rash statements without backing them up, so let me give you five reasons as to why I love this sport so much.

  1. It’s fast paced, making it great to watch and and it’s especially good for TV viewing. Widescreen televisions were made for this sport. You can see each of the players and watch how they interact to form a great team.
  2. Both men’s and women’s volleyball are entertaining. In some aspects the women’s game is even better as the rallies go for longer and there are some very attractive female athletes.
  3. The sport is played in many countries across the globe. North and South America and Europe love the game and it’s huge in China and Turkey. There aren’t too many other sports which can boast such an international appeal.
  4. It’s a great sport to bet on. You can back teams straight out, you can place set bets and it’s also a great game for handicap betting with either team getting a point head start.
  5. While the game is particularly suited to taller players (like many sports), you can definitely play the game if you are short. Volleyball involves a combination of physical ability and hand-eye coordination, which makes it a great game to promote within any community. Anyone can excel at it, it’s social and fantastic exercise.

Have a look at the volleyball during the Olympics and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
