Usher in the Year of the Horse

Written by Yuci Tai

Cotai Strip Resorts Macao is celebrating the Year of the Horse at The Venetian Macao’s expansive outdoor lagoon area until 16 February with “Seasons of Prosperity,” featuring the local art project Anno Equitum, in which 38 Macao local artists each hand-decorated a two-metre-high fibreglass horse themed on the Spring Festival in their own unique style. Among them are horses covered in red lace, painted with black and green stripes, sprayed with golden sequins and sparkling beads and covered by a colorful painting depicting the urban landscape of Macao. Visitors can view 18 of the fantastically decorated fibreglass horses lining the outdoor lagoon area, while the other 20 will be on display throughout Macao in selected public areas.

Another major highlight of the festive event is the new and enhanced 3D light and sound show with Chinese New Year elements, also named “Seasons of Prosperity”, which will adorn the façade of The Venetian Macao from18:00 to 22:00 nightly until 16 February, with showings spaced at 30-minute intervals, taking visitors on an auspicious and imaginative journey. The stunning visual experience features fantastic festive scenes, like bidding farewell to the Year of the Snake and welcoming the Year of the Horse, and a flood of gold coins seemingly dropping from the top of the façade, filling it like a jar. A splendid entertainment line-up includes an LED lion and dragon dance with pyrotechnic effects, and a God of Fortune giving away golden ingot chocolates.

In addition, a golden traditional Chinese archway will welcome visitors to Cotai Strip Resorts Macao’s Year of the Horse extravaganza, with golden wishing trees dotting the area, an authentic ice skating rink for visitors to glide on, a colossal 40-foot-high peach blossom tree, and a beautiful carrousel with horses to ride on. Visitors also won’t want to miss the exciting game booths featuring fortune telling, lucky draws giving away a variety of attractive prizes like ice skating and carrousel coupons, lucky banner calligraphy and balloon twisting.
