Weekend preview

Written by Big Jim

There is no EPL this weekend but it is opening weekend of the NFL and we’ve got one hell of a round to start things off. There are plenty of divisional match-ups and plenty of games that should be very close which will make for tantalizing viewing. Here is a list of games you shouldn’t miss – the Falcons will face a stern test on the road in New Orleans; the Bengals face a similar challenge on the road to Chicago and the Vikings travel to meet the Lions with both clubs undoubtedly confident of reaching the playoffs.

It keeps coming as Green Bay head west to take on last year’s runners up the 49ers in San Francisco and we end the weekend with two NFC East blockbusters as the Giants travel to Dallas and the Eagles head to Washington.

It’s always tougher in the first week of the season but I am tipping the Falcons, Bears, Lions, Green Bay, Dallas and the Redskins all at the line. The best of the rest might be the Rams, who host the Cardinals.

The AFL finals start this weekend and there will be some amazing football on show. I like the following teams at the line bet – Hawthorn to beat Sydney, Fremantle to be competitive against Geelong, Collingwood to steamroll Port and the Tigers to down a spirited Carlton.

It’s a huge weekend in the rugby league too as it is the final weekend of the regular season. The minor premiership is up for grabs as the Rabbitohs battle it out against their old rivals the Roosters. I think South Sydney will find a way to beat the Roosters in what should be one hell of a game. There are another four games with huge finals implications as four teams fight it out for the last two final eight spots. This is the sign of a very healthy competition. The Warriors are my best bet of the round but they need other results to go their way and I feel even a big win won’t be enough for them to make the final eight.

We’ve also got more US Open tennis, international rugby, golf from the Swiss Alps, cricket and baseball on the menu in another great weekend of sport.

Good luck and good punting.
