WGM’s Best Weekend Bets: Fri 26 to Sun 28 Jun

Despite concerns over the lack of goals scored by big guns Argentina and Colombia during the group stages, there is no doubt tonight’s quarter final clash loom as the biggest of this year’s Copa America. The Argentinians scored four goals in their three games and although they won just one of those, Colombia have far greater concerns with only one goal scored in the group stages. And if they can’t score, their tournament future doesn’t look good against an attack boasting Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez. Argentina to win.

We head to Australia on Saturday for the NRL clash between North Queensland and Cronulla. The hosts have won 11 games in a row to set a new club record but, incredibly, seven of those wins have been by single digits. They have decided to rest star player Johnathan Thurston for this clash and with Cronulla playing some quality football recently they look the goods at the line.

Sunday sees us hit the boxing ring as Timothy Bradley takes on Jessie Vargas for the WBO interim welterweight title. Both fighters have excellent records with just a single loss between them but neither is renowned for their punching power. The main difference here is the quality of fighter they have overcome with Manny Pacquiao among Bradley’s victims. He should be too good here but we expect the fight to go the distance.
