WGM’s Best Weekend Bets: Fri 27 Mar to Sun 29 Mar

We’ll start in Australia with the National Rugby League and an intriguing clash between the Bulldogs and Tigers at ANZ Stadium. Canterbury have been in some pretty good form of late and go into this match as warm favorites.

We expect them to win this one, but the improving Tigers are certainly a chance. Their exciting young squad pushed the best team in the competition, South Sydney, all the way last week so at the very least they should be able to cover the spread tonight.

The latest batch of qualifying games for Euro 2016 take place tonight and we like the look of the Netherlands who are paying a healthy $1.55 at home to Turkey. Although their form in the qualifiers so far has been patchy, they’ve won their previous two home qualifiers by a combined score of 9-1 and should add a few more to that tally.

Finally it’s the final of the cricket World Cup as co-hosts Australia and New Zealand do battle in what promises to be an epic battle for the trophy. New Zealand has won all nine of their matches so far including a remarkable win against South Africa in the semi-final, however this will be their first match of the tournament played outside of New Zealand.

The much bigger Melbourne Cricket Ground, combined with an Australia-style pitch, will test them and it will be interesting to see how they handle playing in their first ever World Cup final. Conversely, Australia has won this tournament four times before and have also found form at the right time following big wins over Pakistan and India to get to this point. We lean towards the home side.
