WGM’s Best Weekend Bets: Fri 31 to Sun 2 August 2015

Written by Ben Blaschke

A perfect betting weekend last week including two from two in the NRL has us back in Australia for tonight’s clash between traditional rivals Sydney Roosters and Canterbury. There will be plenty of aggression between two of the competition’s biggest forward packs but with the Roosters’ defense on track to break all NRL records it’s hard to see the visitors scoring enough points to trouble them. We haven’t been overly impressed by the Bulldogs all year and their eight-point start at the line doesn’t seen big enough.

It’s a busy Saturday in Major League Baseball with 15 games being played and our pick of the lot is the Seattle Mariners @ Minnesota Twins. Both sides have been playing in some high scoring games of late. Heading into this four-game series the game total had gone over in four of the Mariners’ last five games as well as four of the Twins’ last five games. It had also gone over in six of the Twins’ last seven home games. We’ll stick with the trend.

The annual Community Shield means we’re less than a week from the start of the new English Premier League season and what better way to start than a clash between London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea. The long-running feud between managers Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho is enough to expect both sides to go all-out for the win so we expect a few goals to be scored. The Community Shield has typically induced open football too with five of the past six having produced three goals or more.
