He looked like a beaten down man in the Australian Open final last month, but the clay court season has arrived and that means it’s all about one man – Rafael Nadal.
The greatest clay courter of all time will be eying a record ninth French Open crown in a few months’ time, but with plenty of time to get ready for that he heads to Rio this week to take part in a new event on the ATP calendar, the Rio Open.
With almost US$1.5 million on offer, the clay specialists have been quick to sign up with David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro and Fabio Fognini among the starters, but when it comes to this surface it’s only ever about Nadal.
