Welcome to “What’s on this week”, where we let you know about all of the activities, shows, events and festivals being held in Macau this week. Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus Live showcases over 40 of the world’s best action sports athletes performing daring and often record-breaking tricks. The latest edition of the SPLASH pool party series is also upon us as we look to farewell summer. It will wash you away with cool beats and euphoric energy!

Dramatis Personae
Four girls from different backgrounds with conflicting personalities agree to select who is the happiest among them when they reach 38 years old. ‘They’ – a dramatic play exploring aging, life’s contradictions and its many mirages from the female perspective – follows the individual stages of growth of the protagonists in their milestone years of 18, 28 and 38 in order to question the very notion of “happiness”.

Evening Concert – Yoyo Sham MOVING ON to Macau

In Good Season – Works by Coke Wong
Fascinated by all things military since his childhood and widely read on the subject, veteran local sculptor and educator Coke Wong poses as a war correspondent in this exhibition to remind his audience of the stupidity of conflict, whilst reflecting on the idiosyncrasies of human civilization via 20 of his sculptures and installation art works.

Fado performance in Wine Museum
Employing maps, texts, photos and videos to relate the history of wine and vineyard terrain, the Wine Museum presents a comprehensive education of viniculture, with the emphasis on Portuguese wine-producing regions as well as references to winemaking in China. Visitors can also taste the wine as well as catching atmospheric performances of Fado – a traditional form of Portuguese music infused with sentiment and melancholy.

Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus Live
Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus Live showcases over 40 of the world’s best action sports athletes performing daring and often record-breaking tricks in freestyle motocross, BMX and skateboarding, along with heart-stopping stunts on unique contraptions rarely attempted outside of the Nitro Circus family. They will also be pushing their limits and skill on skates, scooters and a range of unorthodox conveyances, including a drink cooler, Barbie car, toy trike, shopping trolley, boogie board and many more. It features a performance of the extraordinary hole-in-one where riders launch 50 feet into the air off the Gigant-A-Ramp, attempting to land with pinpoint accuracy inside an inflatable Zorb ball.

SPLASH Vol. 9
This year’s SPLASH pool party series is going to bring summer to a close with an electrifying bang with DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Myon and Shane 54 from Hungary and chart-topping Switzerland-based DJ/producer EDX. Cranking it up by the Hard Rock pool, together they will generate an EDM storm that will wash you away with cool beats and euphoric energy.

Cultural Activities in Coloane Square
A good place to start this month is Eduardo Marques Square in old Coloane Village. Enjoy Saturday afternoon street performances themed around the activities of the “Flash Art Group”, plug into a music performance (10 August and 24 August) catch a magic show (17 August) or go classical with Strings Performances (31 August) – all in the mesmerizing time warp of Macau’s very own Brigadoon.

Louis Vuitton Art of Travel Exhibition
Following stops in cities throughout China, the Louis Vuitton Art of Travel Exhibition has finally arrived in the romantic environs of a magnificent indoor tent in Macau, which serves as the showcase setting for Louis Vuitton’s elegant historical background and handcrafted products. A senior packer from Paris provides packing flair, while visitors can also enjoy a hard case personalized hand-painting service, order customized luggage and see an educational documentary by photographer Jean Lariviere.

Taipa Flea Market
Taipa Flea Market is easily accessible from Taipa High Street and comprises dozens of stalls selling hundreds of fascinating items! From traditional delicacies, period postcards and stamps to lamps, jade pieces, jewellery, coins, toys and collectibles. Crossroads .Another Dimension
Crossroads .Another Dimension. This Cross-Strait Four-Regions Artistic Exchange Project brings together 16 artists from Shenzhen, Macau, Kaohsiung and Hong Kong in a touring exhibition of the four cities. The theme refers to the constant flow and transfiguration of the existence and creation space of the artists, along with the globalization and the reality of the cross-strait and four regions.

The Glorious Era of Julius Caesar – Military Science and Technology in Roman Republic

Fantasy World – Chinoiserie
Europe has long held a fascination with Chinese culture, dating back as far as the Ming dynasty when missionaries brought Chinese philosophy, art, religion, science and technology back home with them. Dubbed Chinoiserie, this fashion permeated many facets of European life. This exhibition traces the origins of Chinoiserie and its influence in France with over 80 valuable items including paintings, prints, ceramics and tapestries.
