Welcome to “What’s on this week” – our weekly look at what’s going on around Macau over the coming seven days. As always, there is never a quiet moment in this exciting place, so whether you prefer the silent beauty of an art exhibition or the thrill of a wild pop concert, there is a great selection of events coming up. Those who enjoy a quality wine are in for a treat this week with two thrilling events at the Venetian while local composer Njo Kong Kie will be performing works from his album “Picnic in the Cemetery”.

Tedeschi Winemaker Dinner
Food and wine lovers shouldn’t miss this special event at Portofino the Venetian Macau this Wednesday night. Winemaker Sabrina Tedeschi from Italy’s Tedeschi Wines hosts this four course dinner where you will be treated to salmon carpaccio with Sevruga caviar; chanterelle risotto with goose liver; lamb T-bone with baby beets and gratin dauphinoise; and gorgonzola dolce and piccante with mostarda di frutta — all matched with Tedeschi wines!

Macau Wine & Dine Festival
The biggest wine festival in Macau is on again with 25 specialist wine and food booths from around the world at the Venetian Lagoon as well as an educational wine school. This is the third running of this annual event and is a great way to pass the day with entertainment provided by bands and artists.

The Folga Project — “Picnic in the Cemetery”
Local composer Njo Kong Kie presents this unique experience featuring music from his “Picnic in the Cemetery” album plus compositions written especially for this event. The Folga Project is a quarter with Njo in piano alongside a guitar, violin and cello. The music is modern yet extremely emotive, romantic and captivating.

Fantasy World – Chinoiserie
Europe has long held a fascination with Chinese culture, dating back as far as the Ming dynasty when missionaries brought Chinese philosophy, art, religion, science and technology back home with them. Dubbed Chinoiserie, this fashion permeated many facets of European life. This exhibition traces the origins of Chinoiserie and its influence in France with over 80 valuable items including paintings, prints, ceramics and tapestries.

William Shakespeare – The Winter’s Tale
Brought to you by the Macao Youth Repertory Theatre of the Macao Conservatory, this local production of The Winter’s Tale provides a modern interpretation of a Shakespeare classic under the direction of celebrated Taiwanese Shakespeare scholar Ma Tin Ni. Performed in Cantonese with Chinese subtitles, it tells the story of a king whose life is torn apart after he falsely accuses his wife of cheating and abandons his own daughter.

Vanishing Techniques – Photographs of Jean Baudrillard
One of the most influential thinkers in the world, Jean Baudrillard’s unique photographic theory allowed him to express a different way of looking at the world. This exhibition of around 50 pieces is the most complete and comprehensive introduction to his works since he passed away. Works on show have been personally selected by Mrs Marine Baudrillard.

The Venetian Carnevale is coming back on a scale that you’ve never seen before!
