The 1st “Art Macao”
Art fans are in for a treat this week with the very first “Art Macao” exhibition being held at the Venetian. Nearly a thousand pieces of artwork from over 50 art galleries and institutions around the world will be on display including everything from oil paintings and traditional Chinese paintings to drawings, prints, photographs and sculptures. A Macau Artists Thematic Exhibition and a Japanese/Korean Young Artists Exhibition will also be held with the aim of promoting Asian art and cultural exchange.

Dragon Boat Worship Ceremony
For something a bit different, why not pop down to Nam Van Lake this Tuesday 28 May and witness a special worship ceremony seeking blessings for the three men’s teams representing Sands China at the upcoming 2013 Macau International Dragon Boat Races. The traditional ritual includes the dotting of the dragon’s eyes, the distribution of red envelopes to the racing team members and the setting off of firecrackers.

Wayne McGregor: Random Dance – Far
Acclaimed choreographer Wayne McGregor brings his latest masterpiece to Macau for two special performances. Featuring an ensemble of 10 brilliant performers, Far will leave you gasping in amazement as they present McGregor’s ground-breaking approach to dance. Far also features a stunning score by Brian Eno collaborator Ben Frost and jaw-dropping visuals including a computerized pin board of 3,200 LED lights.

Fantasy World – Chinoiserie
Europe has long held a fascination with Chinese culture, dating back as far as the Ming dynasty when missionaries brought Chinese philosophy, art, religion, science and technology back home with them. Dubbed Chinoiserie, this fashion permeated many facets of European life. This exhibition traces the origins of Chinoiserie and its influence in France with over 80 valuable items including paintings, prints, ceramics and tapestries.

Vanishing Techniques – Photographs of Jean Baudrillard
One of the most influential thinkers in the world, Jean Baudrillard’s unique photographic theory allowed him to express a different way of looking at the world. This exhibition of around 50 pieces is the most complete and comprehensive introduction to his works since he passed away. Works on show have been personally selected by Mrs Marine Baudrillard.
