As I write this I am back in Macau after the long round the world trip I take every summer which always includes playing in the world’s most prestigious poker tournament – the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. This year was my best showing ever coming in at 635th out of the 6,683 runners in the event. It was only a min cash but even min cashing in the WSOP Main is an achievement – it takes four long, hard, gruelling days of poker just to make the money. It was nice to still be alive in the tournament when those immortal words came across the speakers, “You’re all in the money!” It was also nice to hold a few of those lovely dark green 25,000 chips. Next year I’m aiming for the lavender 100,000s.

Anyway, back to WGM. Let’s talk about gaming stocks. What the hell happened? There we all were merrily pocketing a small fortune from all these gaming stocks inexorably climbing up and up and up for four years from 2010 to the beginning of this year. Then the Share Market Gods decided to hit the doomswitch (google it) and it was busto-time. Why? Why indeed – turn to page 12 to check out WGM’s hypothesis on the crash.

What else is in this issue? An interesting story about Macau’s absolutely dreadful taxi industry, a high level poker tip all about three-betting from our poker guru Ben, an interesting analysis of where the sport of boxing is headed (something the Venetian Macao will be very interested in), a review of one of the most interesting new casino games to emerge in recent years – Lunar Poker, our assessment of the new young rising stars of tennis as well as all the lifestyle articles you’ve come to expect from your regular dose of WGM.

I should also take this opportunity to congratulate our very own Michael Mariakis on his promotion from World Gaming CMO to COO and welcome avid WGM reader Derrick Tran into the family as our new CMO. There are a lot of new faces coming on board at WGM in the coming months, so please check out our website at wgm8.com to see who’s who in the zoo.

Until next time, when we will have a very big announcement to, er, announce, don’t forget to keep following that Dragon!
