Good Food Guide: Dois Em Um Cheok Kei

Written by The Panda

There is no shortage of noodle and congee shops in Macau. This one is located in the old town area and although small, it provides a wide variety of noodles and congee to choose from. With so many options we were a bit lost at the beginning. We eventually ordered Liwan style congee and sautéed fish with green pepper. When the congee was brought to the table, we were shocked how big the bowl was and by the sheer volume of congee. The congee base is creamy and smooth, but for a bowl of Liwan style congee there could have been more ingredients.

With a bit more added it could have been a perfect dish. Having said that, there were plenty of sautéed fish and green peppers to make amends. For around MOP$30 we were surprised to receive eight big, whole peppers all sautéed perfectly. The fish meat inside the peppers is very refreshing and adding Worcestershire sauce makes it particularly tasty. While eating therewe I saw lots of other customers order rice noodles with stewed fish head. The smell of the dish is rich and fragrant, but considering the limited room in our stomachs, we had to leave it for next time.
