Japan’s Kim Nayoung becomes first female Asian Poker Tour champion

Written by Ben Blaschke

After 47 Main Event stops over the past seven years, the Asian Poker Tour finally has its first female Main Event champion!

Japan’s Kim Nayoung made poker history late Wednesday when she overcame a field of 64 players to claim the trophy and the KRW 25,800,000 top prize (HK$175,000).

Nayoung was, ironically, one of five Japanese players at the final table although few expected her to prevail given she began the final day sitting sixth in chips. However, she showed the benefits of aggression to storm into the chip lead by the time play was three-handed and eventually etched her name in the history books after downing Russia’s Sergey Zasorin heads-up.

The APT heads back to Manila next for APT Philippines from 13 to 21 April at Resorts World Manila.
