The Macau Films & Television Production and Culture Association has confirmed that acclaimed director Marco Mueller will be festival director for the inaugural International Film Festival Macao, set to run from 8 to 14 December 2016.

A former director of the world famous Venice, Rome and Locarno film festivals, Mueller will be in charge of selecting up to 45 films to be aired at the International Film Festival Macao – expected to include a range of commercial and genre films from around the world.

The festival will be mostly based at the Macao Science Center with some screenings to be held at UA Galaxy Cinemas. With a substantial US$10 million budget, it is considered an important step in boosting Macau’s non-gaming attractions.

Mueller recently worked as artistic adviser to the Beijing and Silk Road film festivals in China.
