WGM’s Best Weekend Bets: Fri 30 Oct to Sun 1 Nov 2015

Written by Ben Blaschke

We start the weekend by getting in a day early for the huge Premier League clash between battling big guns Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. It’s been a tough start to the season for both clubs with defending champions Chelsea particularly disappointing of late with just three wins from 10 EPL games and a shock loss to Stoke in the League Cup midweek. Liverpool enjoyed their first win under new coach Jürgen Klopp during the week but neither side has found it easy to score of late so expect another tight tussle here.

Also on Saturday is the final of the Rugby World Cup between traditional rivals New Zealand and Australia. The Kiwis are deserved favorites for this one but the Wallabies have been ultra-impressive throughout the tournament and are the only side to have beaten the All Blacks in a Test match in 2015. If there is one side New Zealand don’t want to lose a World Cup final to it is Australia and it will be interesting to see if panic sets in should the Aussies start well. Either way, we expect a very close game so the 6.5 point start given to the underdogs looks to be good value.

Sunday sees one of the most anticipated clashes in years in the NFL as the undefeated Green Bay Packers travel to undefeated Denver with one side set to move to 7-0 for the season. This is just the fourth time in NFL history that two undefeated sides have met this late in the season and the match-up between quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning is a mouth-watering one. Nevertheless, the Broncos haven’t been quite as dominant as their record suggests with Manning struggling to produce his best at times and relying on his defense to get the side home. With Rodgers in career best form, we’re leaning towards a Packers win.
