The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has released its 2016 schedule with a number of significant tweaks made for the tournament series which will run from 31 May to 18 July at the Rio in Las Vegas.

A total of 69 bracelet events will make up this year’s schedule, including eight brand new events such as a US$565 Re-entry PLO, US$2,000 No Limit Hold’em, a US$1,000 tag team event and a unique US$1,000 Top-Up Turbo event where players who cash in a US$55 Sit’n’Go on WSOP.com beforehand have the option of doubling their starting stack in the live event.

The biggest changes, however, are to structures and payouts.

The WSOP will this year increase the number of players making the money in most events from 10 percent of the field to 15 percent with the minimum payout expected to be around 1.5 times the buy-in.

Starting stacks for US$10,000 buy-in events, including the Main Event, have also been boosted to a hefty 50,000 chips although structures have been slightly altered in some cases to help fit scheduled durations.

And the popular US$565 Colossus is back! Having become the biggest live poker event ever held last year when it attracted a record field of 22,374 starters, the 2016 version will boast an increased US$7 million guarantee with a minimum US$1 million first prize. The Colossus gets underway on 2 June.
