WSOP’s Colossus II by the numbers

Written by Ben Blaschke

The 2016 World Series of Poker kicked off with a bang over the weekend as the mammoth US$565 Colossus II attracted a field of 21,613 players and a prize pool of almost US$11 million.

Although falling short of last year’s record 22,374 starters, the new payout structure introduced to this year’s WSOP means the 3,245 players who made the money is the most ever paid out in a single tournament. Play resumes today with 78 remaining and a top prize of US$1 million awaiting the winner.

The breakdown of entries in this year’s Colossus II makes for interesting reading. Of the 21,613 entries, 11,713 of them were unique with 9,900 players re-entering and 268 players taking part in all six Day 1 flights.

The average age of entrants was 41.4 years with the oldest being Norman Spivock at 92 years, one month and 21 days and the youngest Brandon Henderson at 21 years and one day!

A total of 89 countries were represented.
