Learning to be a Thai Chef

Written by Yuci Tai

For many years, Thai natives have uprooted and moved across to Macau. Thai Restaurants can be seen everywhere and this lovely cuisine has quickly become a local favorite. In view of this, Banyan Tree Macau has introduced a distinctive cooking experience with the launch of a series of cooking classes at its acclaimed Thai restaurant, Saffron.

Cooking classes are held by request and are led by Banyan Tree Macau’s native Thai Chef de Cuisine, Gina. Why don’t you learn the secrets of Thai cuisine while enjoying the fun of cooking, or make a yummy surprise for your special one!

In the class, Chef Gina – who is renowned for her unique talent of exquisitely balancing delicate Thai flavors – will lead this comprehensive cooking class using traditional methods passed down from generations of Thai masters. The objective of the cooking class is to let participants gain hands-on experience in making an original Thai menu. Popular Thai dishes such as Tom Yum Goong, Green Chicken Curry and Pandan Tapioca will be taught and all will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor at the end of the class.

Chef Gina was awarded the gold and silver medals in Thailand’s national “Thai Food Competition” over three consecutive years from 2004 to 2006 and won the silver medal in the 2005 “Som Tam Contest”.

Prices range from MOP$698 per person for the cooking methods and theory class or MOP$998 if you also want to learn about selecting ingredients at the local market. Why not give it a try!
