Macau Grand Prix one for the history books

Written by Ben Blaschke

The 62nd running of the Macau Grand Prix proved to be a memorable one with two drivers etching their names in the history books on the famous Guia Circuit on Sunday.

Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist became just the second driver to win the Macau Grand Prix back to back since the Formula 3 format was introduced in 1983. Italian Edoardo Mortara won consecutive races in 2009 and 2010.

But just as significant this year was the inaugural running of the prestigious FIA GT World Cup, sponsored by SJM, which saw 22 of the world’s best touring car drivers invited to compete.

Germany’s Maro Engel proved victorious in his Mercedes – surviving a highly eventful race that saw the lead change multiple times before a multi-car crash forced a red flag finish.

Hong Kong’s Marchy Lee finished eighth.
